What To Avoid If You Have Sensitive Teeth

Posted on Blog March 7, 2014 by admin

Sensitivity can be caused by a number of different factors, including stress and genetics, as well as other external factors. If you are plagued with having sensitive teeth, try a few of these tips to help avoid discomfort and pain due to sensitivity.

1. Acidic Foods

Citrus fruits and juices can seriously aggravate sensitive teeth and ware away at the enamel that helps protect teeth. Tomatoes, sodas and salad dressings are also highly contributing foods to causing heightened sensitivity. Consider skipping that morning glass of orange juice if you find your teeth become sensitive throughout the day.

2. Whitening Gels

Using peroxide-based whitening gels and pastes may not be the best decision for those with sensitive teeth. Discuss teeth whitening options with your dentist to determine the least harmful route to a brighter smile!

3. Certain Mouthwashes

Mouthwashes often contain acid, which can irritate sensitive teeth and even create a sensitivity problem for those who haven’t ever had tender teeth. Talk to your dental care provider about which mouthwash might be right for you and only use it once a day or as recommended.
